The annual 220th Urs of Punjabi poet Waris Shah held at Jandyala Sher Khan, about 14 kilometres away from Sheikhupura.

Punjab Disaster Management Minister Khalid Mahmood and Deputy Commissioner Azhar Hayyat laid a floral wreath on the shrine on the first day.

The minister said the saint had preached love, brotherhood and tolerance.

He urged the people to follow the golden principles of the saint and lead their lives accordingly. The key features of the Urs are competition of horse dancing, kabbadi, wrestling and football. Heer recitation competition is also part of the programme.
