The third Thal Desert Rally would be held from Nov 16 to 18, said Minister for Tourism Raja Humayun Sarfraz and Managing Director Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab Ahmer Malik at a joint press conference at Punjab Stadium recently.
He said 23 new schemes had been added for tourism covering all relevant areas.
Ahmer Malik said the TDCP had [first] organised a rally back in 2016 which received an overwhelming response from motor sport lovers as well as from the local community.
He said the rally would start from Head Muhammadwala and the midpoint would be Chobara, Layyah district. The rally would end at Muhammadwa1a, Muzaffargarh.
He said 70 to 80 drivers, including women, would cover the 180-190 kilometre distance.
Malik said the prize money for winners would be Rs 2.5 million which would be equally distributed among them.
He said arrangements for the rally were under way and a large number of tourists and local spectators are expected to visit the jeep rally.
The MD thanked the respective district governments, Pakistan Army, Rangers, police and other institutions for their cooperation.
The MD said the main objective of the rally was to promote Thal culture and develop economic opportunities for locals.
